ARTIST BIO

Ebony Iman Dallas is an award-winning multimedia artist, public artist, and writer who believes art has the power to unify communities and heal. Dallas uses the art of storytelling to confront silence and reclaim her right to speak. Her work has been exhibited widely, including a joint exhibition with Ron Tarver at Oklahoma Contemporary and the Romare Bearden Centennial Celebration in New York, and published in World Literature Today, Huntington Library Quarterly, and Tulsa People. Dallas is the author and illustrator of the graphic memoir Through Abahay's Eyes and shared her story on The Moth Mainstage.

Through Abahay's Eyes is a graphic memoir over two decades in the making that shares the story of my life and that of my late father, or Abahay, Said Osman. Growing up, I was told conflicting stories about how my father died: that he died by suicide or was killed by police. Through Abahay's Eyes combines narrative storytelling with over 25 original paintings. This creates a layered experience in which image and text intertwine to explore memory, grief, family, and identity.
