TODD WOODLAN

ARTIST BIO

Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Todd Woodlan is an interdisciplinary artist focused on composition, installation art, and performance. Through sound, sculpture, and artifacts of communal interaction, Woodlan's practice highlights the experience of place to explose often unnoticed subjective elements. Currently, this practice centers around music and field recordings that investigate elements and ecologies that create the idea of "Tulsa”: landscapes, histories, cultures, frictions, politics, ideas, experiences, and dreams. His work has been shown internationally, and he holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego.

ARTIST PROJECT INFO

"Movements Under the Limelight" is an immersive musical composition interacting with the unique history and architecture of the Spotlight Theater, one of Tulsa’s most iconic buildings. This project will remove the divide between frontstage and backstage to reimagine the theater as an active place of community creation and history building. Written for an ensemble of string, wind, and percussion, the performance will wind among spaces throughout the building: dressing rooms, offices, stairwells, patios. At each location, musicians will perform a piece responding to the space’s history and sonic characteristics, often using the space itself as an instrument.
