CATY SMITH
ARTIST BIO
Caty Smith is a visual artist working in photography, design, and mixed media. She delves into memory and place through tactile, analog processes including cyanotypes, Polaroid emulsions, and toy camera photography. Smith studied photojournalism at the University of Missouri and has worked across creative fields including editorial photography, graphic design, and fine art consulting. After living in Washington, D.C. and London, traveling through Western Europe and Mongolia, she returned to Tulsa, where her one-of-a-kind, tactile images continue to be shaped by travel, experimentation, and an interest in how visual artifacts carry traces of geography and collective experience.
ARTIST PROJECT INFO
“Fragmented Landscapes” is a new body of mixed media work exploring memory, place, and sustainability. Its layered mark-making, sculptural forms, and nineteenth-century photographic printing techniques extend the image-based work off the wall and into physical space. Guided by a process-first approach and a desire to minimize waste, the work embraces imperfection, reassembly, and material experimentation. The final exhibition will serve as a space for quiet attention, encouraging reflection on what we choose to preserve.
