ZACH LITWACK

ARTIST BIO

Zach Litwack is a mixed-media artist based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Incorporating analog collage techniques, his work blends photographic images with text, abstract shapes, and textures to engage in darkly humorous storytelling. His pieces utilize satire and absurdity not only to entertain but also to engage in a conversation about current social issues. He exhibited his first solo show, “Phantom Limb,” in July of 2023, and he is currently working on pieces for his second solo show, “I’m Good. How Are You?” In addition to creating visual art, he has worked professionally as a filmmaker and educator since 2001.

ARTIST PROJECT INFO

“I’m Good. How Are You?” is a series of 10 mixed-media pieces that explores the undercurrent of toxic positivity in American culture, where our way of speaking is indicative of our values. A common form of greeting is “How are you?” followed by, “I’m good. How are you?” This series of pieces deconstructs this common interaction to consider why this stock answer is the norm and whether superficial positivity has far-reaching negative effects on the American psyche.
