SALLY C. GARNER
ARTIST BIO
Sally C. Garner is a fiber artist seeking to create new experiences for viewers in contemporary craft. She creates large, enveloping soft sculpture installations, even allowing living plants to grow and interact with her sculptures throughout an exhibition. Through weaving, papermaking, basketry, and installation art, she uses conceptually relevant and hand-manipulated materials to explore the opposing forces between nature and humanity, symbolizing the negative effects humans have on balanced ecosystems. Sally shows her work nationally and internationally, teaches workshops and university classes, and occasionally travels for artist residencies.
ARTIST PROJECT INFO
“Symbiosis” uses weaving and materiality to explore the hidden impacts humanity has on our ecosystem and environment. During the exhibition, I will invite the public to weave with both natural fibers and discarded plastics, turning craft into a shared, reflective experience. Participants will be surrounded by a large installation of sculptural paper seed pods that entomb a variety of found plastics pulled from Tulsa’s public lands. This project will create a space for dialogue around sustainability, community, and the role of traditional practices in addressing contemporary ecological concerns.
