ARTIST BIO

Lindsey Claire Smith is a Professor of English at Oklahoma State University and Director of the Center for Poets and Writers at OSU-Tulsa. She is the Editor of American Indian Quarterly, author of two monographs, and an edited essay collection. Her latest book is Urban Homelands: Writing the Native City from Oklahoma (University of Nebraska Press, 2023).

We Belong to the Land: Dreamers, Outsiders, and Change-Makers in Oklahoma is a collection of creative nonfiction essays by activists in Oklahoma covering areas such as law, health care (including reproductive and LGBTQIA health), education, immigration, environment, Indigenous nationhood, racial healing, and alternative histories. This book is the product of a workshop with contributors and a series of public readings and conversations about improving the lives of Oklahomans.
