Joanne Petit-Frère is a sculptor and founder of JoGoesWest Studios™, an interdisciplinary practice extending into film, performance, and sound. Working primarily through braided hair and craft-based methodologies, she transforms intimate gestures of repetition, care, and domestic making into sculptural studies of memory, stability, and upliftment. At the center of her evolving practice is BRAIDWOMAN™, a recurring performative presence through which sculpture enters lived and relational space. Her work considers braid as both structure and method, expanding material practice into architectural, time-based, and participatory forms.

Braided Sanctuaries™ is a modular sculptural and time-based project developed through JoGoesWest Studios™, expanding Joanne Petit-Frère's practice across sculpture, performance, film, and sound. Using braided hair, repurposed materials, and craft-based methodologies, the project explores memory, rebuilding, care, and belonging through mobile sculptural forms that can be reconfigured across sites. BRAIDWOMAN™ activates these works as a performative hosting presence, while the emerging BR3YD sonic practice introduces field recording and sound as new material. Public activations, including The Joy of Braiding, extend the work into spaces of storytelling, improvisation, listening, and communal exchange.
