BOWIE ROWAN

ARTIST BIO

Bowie Rowan is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of storytelling, embodiment, and social history. Their research-driven, emotionally-rooted practice spans fiction, nonfiction, documentary, illustration, and multimedia installation and explores identity, transformation, joy, and resistance. Bowie is drawn to stories that live at the margins—queer lives, forgotten archives, in-between geographies—and uses narrative as a tool for excavation and collective reimagining.

ARTIST PROJECT INFO

Born to Run is an essay collection exploring what it means to make home after loss. As the child of an incarcerated parent, I trace the queer possibilities that can emerge from grief, ancestral trauma, and the need to create family on new terms. The essays follow how I came to spend a year on the road—officiating weddings, sleeping in national parks, and searching for a place to land. Rooted in archival research, community dialogue, and body-based writing, the project will culminate in a public reading and collaborative event honoring Tulsa as a site of transformation and radical belonging.
